Vietnamese born, UK raised, writing and playing original music. Plays flute and guitar, and various twiddly techy gadgets, Mr Thuymusic calls her gadget girl. Well she is glad to still be called a girl at her age. Sounds like #JethroTull crossed with #Goldfrapp /#JaneWeaver /#LauraEscuade /#Grimes

 

After a break from bands from 2005 when she was bringing up her children and working full time in architecture, she started up again in 2018 and has been writing and recording in her home recording set up, building up a body of work. Thuy is her latest project . She's back with new material from her life out of the music. She and Mili on bass have been going out as a duo.

 

Thuy has also accompanied some friends, of note, Sonic Duo a poetry duo, playing woodwind. She has also released an EP in August 2020 with her band Liquid. Which is uptempo dance house.

 

So why so altruistic, what's with the charity stuff. Well she tried but struggled to pay a mortgage and raise 3 kids on a muso's wage . So she has a job and music is a delightful pastime. Which means she doesn't have to compromise musically. She can pretty much do what she likes. SO. Although very far from rolling in it or even approaching being comfortable but certainly not cushy financially . She feels she might has well give any sales to charities she feels strongly about that shows her core values. Her first release , 2019, I hear you, she is donating on going sales , to #TheWhiteChapelCentre Liverpool UK, for the homeless in Liverpool. Having worked for a charity for vulnerable adults for a few years it was a project she felt strongly about. Her new EP with Liquid she agreed with her band to donate to the Red Cross in light of the #coronavirus crisis. The rationale was that this charity operates aid both in the UK and globally.

 

The genre is folk electric, written acoustically on a guitar/piano but then made electronic and experimental. Influences are #JoniMitchell, especially her later albums; Dog eat dog, also, #JohnMartyn, #Goldfrapp, #Portishead #Moloko #Grimes ...She also loves listening to to #PatMetheny , #LyleMays, #PhilipGlass, #ClaudeDebussy, #AnoushkaShankar , religious choral music, baroque period, #KateBush..

She has a catalogue of work which show different periods of writing where the style of each period is distinct showing interesting progression to where it is now. Having never been "famous" but having written for many years her her music has the depth and poignancy of life that she couldn't have found any other way. Most of this work is still in draft form but she is slowly working her way through getting it recorded. She estimates she surely must have at least 11 albums, possibly 17 to record. At about 1 every 2 or 3 years.

Due to never reaching the mainstream, her writing has been interestingly enhanced with this and subject matter reflecting the obscurity of this upcoming writer performer.
